Designing Informational Graphics

In order to get audiences to understand a new model our program offered for accessing farm-fresh foods, I designed print and digital graphics to visually break down our operations into its key components.

Educationally-Focused Social Media Posts

The Slow Food Movement began in 1986 by a group of Italian activists after a demonstration at the intended site of a McDonald's at the Spanish Steps in Rome. Their aim was to defend against regional food systems, traditions, and slow pace of life.

This global grassroots movement continues today by committing to food that is:

Good : Fresh, seasonal, satisfying to our senses.

Clean : Produced in a way that does not harm our planet, animal welfare, or human health.

Fair : Accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for producers.

Caring about food is more than looking at nutritional aspects of it. The choices we make around what we eat have a cultural, environmental, and political impact. Buying directly from local farmers is one way to support the production of Good, Clean, and Fair foods.

The tomatoes in the first picture are fresh and local from our friends at Richmond GAIA Farms

The ones in the second picture have travelled up from Mexico, over 2,500 kms away.

Not only do locally-bought tomatoes have time to ripen on the vine (retaining vital nutrients that get lost when prematurely harvested !!), but buying produce grown close to home reduces its carbon footprint significantly.

When in season, consider purchasing them locally.

Thirteen years ago, a determined 23 year old named Lydia leased half an acre of land to launch her lifelong dream of working in agriculture. Today, Cropthorne Farms' team of 10+ operates 24 acres of land out of Delta, BC and is committed to growing year-round, ecologically sound, nutrient-dense food for local communities.

You can purchase Cropthorne Farm's Certified Organic, high-quality veg at https://farmtoplatemarketplace.com/ for local pickup in Vancouver.

Community Engagement

As a grass-roots initiative, direct engagement with our audiences was essential. The collaborative environment from our face-to-face engagement enabled us to gather meaningful insights from our users and co-develop strategies to improve our program’s impact.
